CAMPAIGN OF FLUOROCARBONS PRODUCERS AGAINST COUNTERFEIT REFRIGERANTS CONTAINING TOXIC AND FLAMMABLE METHYL CHLORIDE
Fluorocarbons producers have warned customers to only purchase refrigerants from authorized suppliers, to prevent them from introducing counterfeit refrigerants containing toxic and flammable substances into their systems.
Fluorocarbons producers have warned customers to only purchase refrigerants from authorized suppliers, to prevent them from introducing counterfeit refrigerants containing toxic and flammable substances into their systems.
Recent explosions and at least three fatalities involving see reefers have led to the discovery of methyl chloride (R-40), a toxic and flammable substance, in counterfeit HFC-134a or HCFC-22 refrigerant cylinders.
Thousands of cylinders of fake refrigerants have already been seized, and producers are reinforcing their campaigns against counterfeit refrigerants.
A number of investigations are ongoing concerning refrigerant blends suspected of containing methyl chloride.

The Financial Timesquoted Peter Smidt-Nielsen,general director of Maersk in Vietnam, is saying that explosions may have been caused by contaminated gas that was put into the reefers’ cooling units in Vietnam between March 30 and April 25, when a number of containers were repaired at Ho Chi Minh City’s Saigon New Port.

As a matter of importance and urgency we would like to bring to your immediate attention information we have received of a recent incident involving counterfeit refrigerant that has led to 3 fatalities. Please have a look in relevant info and links provided...
This article once again highlight the extreme dangers and harmful effects associated with the use of counterfeit refrigerants, all of which we are sure most people are not aware of.
According to the articles a substance within the counterfeit refrigerant had an extreme reaction to the aluminium in the compressor forming a dangerous flammable substance that ignites spontaneously when in contact with air.
As you are well aware there are several imports of inferior refrigerant all around Greece, mainly in the R22 and R134a product range, but more recently and within 2011,not surprisingly there are batches of all other blends also.

It’s extremely important to share this with our customers, warning them about the potential dangers when buying and using refrigerants from non-reputable sources.

We trust by sharing and educating our customers on this very important matter it will allow us the opportunity to use only European quality products and only returnable cylinders which as you know is a far safer form of packaging and remain more cost effective!
